Synopsis of Princess Ida
“Princess Ida” is a comic opera by Gilbert and Sullivan that tells the story of Princess Ida, who has sworn off men and founded a women’s university. The plot unfolds as Prince Hilarion, to whom she was betrothed as a child, tries to win her back. Disguised as women, Hilarion and his friends infiltrate the university, leading to a series of humorous misunderstandings and confrontations. Ultimately, the opera humorously challenges societal norms and expectations, wrapped in Gilbert and Sullivan’s clever satire and lively music.
