About CSTHEA’s Gilbert & Sullivan Homeschool Players in Chattanooga
The Homeschool Players are a homeschool drama and theater group for teens age 12-18. We rehearse and performing Gilbert & Sullivan operettas in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area, and operate under CSTHEA, which is a chapter of Tennessee Home Education Association.
We put on one big amazing show each spring, so watch for tickets to become available around March or April. Subscribe to get notified when tickets go on sale!
Ode to the fair question,
“Why do Gilbert and Sullivan?”
The content is quite witty;
and the music very pretty;
there just are not many
who’ll attempt these operettas.
So, why not here in our fair city?
There’s a brave young group amid ye,
lads and lasses – witty, pretty,
to perform these operettas?
For the content is quite witty;
and the music very pretty;
I.Q.’s not so itty bitty
who’ll admire these operettas.
So, be challenged, young and old;
pay attention, truth be told.
The homeschool players now present ye
this witty, pretty operetta.
What to Expect if You Want to Join HSP
Parent Info Meeting
Every new school year starts with the HSP parent info meeting, and it is usually in the last half of July.
Every family, new and returning, who hopes to participate in the coming school year should attend this meeting because we’ll go over everything you need to know, and start scheduling auditions, which usually happen that same week, Thursday through Saturday.
HSP Auditions
If you hope to join HSP next season, you will be expected to audition, and that applies to principle roles, the chorus members, and the set design & construction team (DCT). If you’ve been in HSP before, you’ll still be expected to audition again each new year.
Those selected to participate will be notified early in the week the following week, and weekly Thursday evening rehearsals start that following Thursday.
Weekly Rehearsals
We meet every Thursday evening from August through April, with scheduled breaks for major holidays. Starting in March, as we get closer to putting on the big show, we also add weekly Saturday rehearsals.
Weekly rehearsals are not optional, and all HSPers are expected to prioritize every meeting.
Tech Week: The Week Before the Performance
Tech week is an intense, exciting, exhausting, and rewarding part of being an HSPer, and it lasts for 7-8 days with long hours, depending on if a student is on the cast or crew. We ask our HSP families to clear their calendars during tech week so that they can give all their time and energy to putting on an amazing show.

Here’s the Homeschool Players DCT’s (the design & construction team) take on tech week:
Homeschool Players’ Big Show
Come see us in the theater! We put just one big show on every year in the Chattanooga area. We give it our all and it shows in the quality of the production. Our teen actors and actresses are incredibly talented, and the sets and props are top notch!
There are typically 6 show times between Thursday-Sunday of show week, and we hope you’ll come see us at the next one!
Plan to come see our production of Mikado in May 28-31, 2026!
